Perceptions of Leisure Shared by Married Individuals: a Q-study
Hugh Gibson
Leisure and its benefits are typically from an individual perspective. The concept of leisure lends itself to be defined by the individual in the experience, whereas, most definitions of leisure would be inappropriate to define leisure shared by couples. The benefits accrued are related to perceptions of perceived freedom, pleasure, and intrinsic motivation in the leisure experience. Leisure shared by couples in all likelihood must compromise on these qualities. Therefore, understanding the perceptions of leisure shared by married couples will lead to revised understanding of the potential benefits of leisure for couples. This book identifies three distinct categories of couples differentiated by their perceptions of shared leisure.
