In turn a writer, a journalist, and a lover of art and pretty women, Patrice Dumby is a dilettante who is comfortable in his own skin, but uncomfortable in today's society. He receives an e-mail message from a student living on the French island of Mayotte. She asks him to shed some light on literature and the arts of the 19th century, an era which both feel an attraction to. He accepts and begins a both cheerful and erudite online correspondence with her, which also resembles a love game. After having, in passing, learned a lot of very serious things, while still having fun, the reader will be led to wonder: how will it all end?
