Innocence Waning is a work of literary fiction that tells the story of sixteen-year-old Chezdon Morrison who desperately wants to lose his virginity. During the course of Chezdon's story, he discovers actions do have consequences that are unintended. Material wealth indeed has limits in terms of providing the enjoyment of life and there are stimuli that impact on his choice of partners that dictate that words do in fact matter. Besides his peers, dysfunctional adults play a part in his development as he abuses both alcohol and illicit drugs. In the course of Chezdon maturing quickly, he experiences both physical and psychological torment that most everyone can identify with in some form. The invested reader will be treated to complex characters whose lives intertwine with those of the adults, sometimes with grave consequences. Publishers Weekly / Booklife Review - January 2020: "Mitchell gives Chezdon a strong voice and a stronger personality that take a little while to get comfortable with, but soon readers will be hooked. He does not shy away from depravity-the debauched afternoon among the boys is a virtuoso sequence-but it is the sweet relationship that develops between Chezdon and Austin that appeals most. It's frustrating to watch Chezdon actively jeopardize that relationship while trying to get what he thinks he wants. Chezdon is highly impulsive, and the plot mostly consists of him careening from one bad decision to another."
