Moving from the comfort and conveniences of living in town, into a run down house without plumbing in the harsh backwoods South of Calwood, proves to put a strain on the entire family's daily life. Strenuous labor, cold winters, death and divorce all weight heavily on Eddie's young emotions. The hardships presented on a daily basis in rural Missouri during the 1960's are nearly enough to devastate the young boy emotionally. Eddie's strong will to overcome, finally pulls him through those turbulent years.
