Two years ago, Special Operations paranormal agents Chase Meridian and Searly McTaggert were part of an operation that saved the world from domination by the ancient torture magicians Elkrod and Quafara. But their victory was costly. Chase lost the love of her life, Frost, and Searly lost her husband, Clarke Kent. Searly has recovered, helping those displaced by Hurricane Saturday and resuming life in Ops. But Chase has not. However, a visit from the legendary German torture magician Kelkirk changes things dramatically for the two redheads. His motives always murky, Kelkirk has aided Ops in the past, but is just as likely to turn on them like a rabid dog. So when Searly and Chase seek to protect a manifesting paranormal in the suburbs of Chicago, his presence there is alarming. But not nearly as alarming as the man Kelkirk is hunting, serial killer turned torture magician Marc Bundy. Bundy has formed a nest of power known as the Hive in San Francisco. Only Searly and Chase can confront him there, but only at great risk to their lives and souls. Bundy would be quite happy to take both.
