After the Civil War and reconstruction, many people were still struggling to figure out what to do with their drastically changed lives. Many turned to crime, and the perfect place to hole up in was the Indian Territory. That is until 1875 when Judge Isaac Parker, dubbed "the hanging judge" by his opposition, came to the bench. He eventually assembled 200 deputies to cover 74,000 square acres of Arkansas and present day Oklahoma. "Rattlesnake" Rex is the embodiment of multiple deputies who rode for Parker and some of their stories rolled into one character.
