The Journey of Our Lives H M Bekirov

Huseyin M Bekirov was born in the remote Balkan Village of Prolaz, Bulgaria in 1935. In 1944 Bulgaria was invaded and occupied by the soviet army. Following this, partisans came down from the mountains and with the help of the KGB established a government modelled after the Soviet system. After many killings, jailing and expropriation of properties and farm land, things somewhat settle down. Big promises were made. Indeed, initially they provided free education, full employment and free health care. This initial enthusiasm of communism in Bulgaria evaporated after the fallacy of the communist system became clear, making many patriotic Bulgarians (like ourselves) leave their country. In 1966 we were sent to serve as physicians in Ethiopia, Africa. After five years of service in Ethiopia, where we lived in a feudal system, we were able to emigrate to the USA. Passing through three continents and living under the Bulgarian Communism and Ethiopian Feudalism, we settled in US Capitalism. All along our journey we encountered life treating dangers but succeeded against all odds.
