Sandra Gray is the first zoologist to study the endangered golden monkeys in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Uganda. This national park is the golden monkey's only home in the entire world. Sandra spends every day hiking through the forest learning about the playful golden monkeys. The family troop that she studies is called Kachima which means monkey in the local language. The Tale of Kachima is a vibrant, educational children's book that teaches children about the golden monkeys and Sandra's impact in the field of conservation. The story is told from the perspective of the golden monkeys as they experience a day in the forest. The book was written by a high school senior, Bella Horton, who met Sandra Gray when traveling in Uganda. Sandra and Bella hope this colorful educational story will inspire future generations to pursue STEM fields and educate more people about the importance of preserving the environment, including all the unique species that live in it. Proceeds from this book are being used to directly fund conservational research in the national park, mainly focused on the golden monkeys.
