A year after a lethal face off with the serial killer known as the White Devil, private investigator Harry Webster still feels the occasional pang of his physical and psychological wounds but life in general is on the up. His relocated and expanded business is doing well. His near-death experience and the fifteen minutes of fame that ensued is still bringing in new clients, the latest of which is software millionaire Callum Jensen, who wants Webster to locate his estranged wife Jennifer. It seems a straightforward enough case, until Jensen shows him a photograph of Jennifer and Webster recognises her as a woman with whom he once shared a steamy one-night stand. That's just the start of what turns out to be anything but simple as Webster's search for the missing woman involves him with a modern-day version of the notorious Hellfire Club and leads to a murder with sinister occult overtones. In the frame as the chief suspect, Webster finds his very sanity called in to question by those closest to him as he hunts for a devilish killer. Could the answer lie in a three-hundred-year-old curse or is it buried somewhere in Webster's own traumatised psyche?
