This is a picture book based on the life a real life person named Mary Breckinridge who in 1925 founded the Frontier Nursing Service (FNS for short) located in Wendover, KY (which is near Hyden, KY). Mary did a lot of good work for the area and helped mothers deliver healthy babies back in the day when mothers who lived in the mountain area of Hyden, KY had midwives deliver babies instead of a doctor. The FNS is still in business today educating interested persons learn the process of becoming a midwife.
