The shadow of the teapot
Steph Mason
Just after the Second World War, when the first flush of newborns brought hope and normality back to Britain, Margy and her two younger sisters were given away at birth to a woman whom local children called The-witch-on-the-corner. The three girls found themselves being brought up in a houseful of females still stuck in the Victorian era while Britain romped onwards into the 1960s. Margy soon discovers that real family can be more sinister than any "witch", and kindness has the power to beautify the least attractive face. The shadow of the teapot is a true story.
