Helplessly swept into military life during the Viet Nam war, newlyweds Nonie and Lance are determined to ride out the storm. However, combat and three years of active military service has wrought changes in Lance. Becoming increasingly self-absorbed, Lance is discontent. Chasing the nameless shapeless 'elusive butterfly', Lance hitch-hikes around the country without regard to the young family he leaves behind. Finally turning his life over to the Lord, Lance becomes a changed man, co-founding a Christian coffee-house. Reconnecting with old friends, Lance faces new temptations. Lance wants the best of both worlds: living single with the benefits and rewards of marriage. Pushing in to God for wisdom, Nonie is not willing to give up on their marriage. Refusing to give up hope, Nonie finds a radical plan to change their marriage and their situation. Always faithful, God patiently teaches life lessons to those who seek Him.
