Dr. Annous arrived in the United States on July 17, 1987 after living through the war in Lebanon for 15 years. She made it to California at 26 years old, widowed with a three-year-old daughter. The last thirty years have been a roller coaster for Jinane as she learned English, became an American citizen, raised her daughter as a single mother, obtained her doctorate and built a career as an educator. However, through it all, she never forgot the nagging feeling that one day she needed to write a book, a book about how we fall in love, and build beautiful relationships which sometimes break into pieces, leaving us in ultimate pain. Jinane wanted to write a love story filled with reality, and about how to cope with the emotional pain of baring your soul to another person who ends up hurting you. She wanted to write about how to fight through the aftermath of a breakup, how to learn to trust again, and finally about the healing that follows. "Wings" is the book Jinane imagined.
