I have been drawing and painting for many years. When I travel I draw people - on the street, in cafes, in airports and bus stations - wherever and whenever I have the opportunity to draw. I photograph the children I do the mosaic mural projects with, and paint them when I get home. And I take photos of people on the streets to paint. The act of drawing and painting is the act of seeing. When I draw and paint people I see such beauty in them. If everyone of us could see this beauty, there would be no more violence on this earth. The images in this book are interspersed with statistics reflecting the extent of violence against women, and with facts about the extraordinary things that women have done and are doing. The images are of paintings, mosaic murals, and sculptures I have created. The statistics and facts are from various sources. The idea of seeing the beauty is not just about physical beauty, it is about the beauty of kindness, the beauty of intelligence, the beauty of understanding, the beauty of creation and all the other beauties that women have.
