For Reslo, the elven guardian of the forest road, upholding his father's oath means serving a usurping, foreign king and spending his life as an outsider. He wants nothing more than to do his duty and be home in time for dinner, but he instead finds himself embroiled in a battle against old enemies. To make things worse, two young, bungling knights are on a quest to find their lost champion and he must keep them alive or end up starting a war. Reslo must risk his life and put all he loves at risk to fulfill his father's oath and save his forest homeland for the very people who shun him.
