Edward Waverley, a young noblemen from a family with Jacobite sympathies, receives a military commission, but falls in the the rebel Jacobite cause after meeting members of Clan Mac-Ivor, including the beautiful Flora. Edward meets Charles Edward Stuart ("Bonnie Prince Charlie") and participates in the Battle of Prestonpans.
