After two failed marriages, Catherine seeks a new life after leaving Manchester for the picturesque village of Warwickstone, a couple of hours south of Birmingham and quickly finds a position working for the retired and respected business man, Adam Taylor. Despite soon finding Adam cold hearted and selfish, Catherine quickly settles into her new role with ease and despite his self-regard Adam does appear to favour one niece who Catherine suspects is scheming to acquire whatever she can from her uncle. Catherine loves working at the large and beautiful Beechwood House and soon finds friendship with Adams other staff and the son of Adams accountant, but as Catherine's obscure past begins to catch up with her, she discovers that Adam has secrets too, spanning seventy years, but will the secrets that they both hold, threaten everyone's happiness at Beechwood House and change all their lives forever.
