Four Years is a collection of poems that follows the narrative of the author's four-year descent into addiction, depression, isolation, loneliness, and subsequent journey and ascent into healing, growth, and relative triumph. It serves as a monument to the author's phaneron of his personal relationships with friends, family, lovers, loved ones, and, ultimately, himself. Four Years explores themes of happiness and its pursuit, love and loss, mental health, pain and panic, romance, self-blame, self-loathing, self-medication, sex as a coping mechanism, suicidal ideation, and others. Leyva is a twenty-five year old poet from Riverside, California, and Four Years is his debut body of work.
