Alex Silva
When a 22 year old recent college graduate, Alex, is fired from his highly professional job for being gay, all hell breaks loose. On a layover flight to San Francisco, where he plans to start a new life, Alex is brutally beaten and arrested by airport security for the crime of "possession of gay porn" in his suitcase. A small town Texas judge sentences Alex to a prison mental institution for the criminally insane for "observation." Locked up for months, with no trial, Alex strives to survive in a prison of hardened criminals. He ponders back to growing up as a military brat in Germany during the turbulent 60's and 70's. Manic Rainbow is fast paced with amusing stories of first loves and sexual awaking in a conservative place. Living in Cold War Europe, San Francisco's Castro "Free-Love" era, Oklahoma's Bible Belt and being young in prison are depicted. The twists and turns in the plot make for an interesting and unpredictable read. Based on true events that cover several historic decades.
