Michael, a high school teenager with a good heart and an anger problem, is feeling hopeless. He has just had a huge change in his life, uprooted from everything he knows. He loathes his misfortune, but when things begin to look up, he learns to appreciate the people in his corner. Cynthia is one of the popular girls. She dreams of changing the world for the better, but she's unsure how. The world, however, is in a state of sustained chaos. It's 2034 and society is crumbling. Free trade has been abolished, food and water are in short supply, countries have begun selfishly hording resources for their own survival, and the United States is once again at war with terror both abroad and at home. But when Michael finds an old journal under the floorboards of his childhood home, everything changes. Lights begin to appear in the sky, sending the world into a frenzy. President Oliver scrambles with her advisors, anxiously trying to figure out what, why, and how. She sends in her best people to figure it out, and the truth, it seems, is stranger than anyone could have imagined.
