"I wish I knew what I know now, when I was younger." - Rod Stewart No matter what our age, if we knew then what we should have done with our money, most of us would have done something different to keep our future financial security in "cheque". But not all of us were that sure what to do. Including me. "Grab a brain!" I used to hear this in my own home. I laugh because I know precisely what was happening and with whom when the phrase was suggested. I think you can relate. However, what I'm suggesting is we should use the phrase "Grow a brain!" instead. Our brains are intricate learning tools, and if not kept limbered with open-mindedness and eagerness to find out more about how to live better lives, we will suffer with loneliness, desperation, debt and fear. Avoiding responsibility of developing new brain capabilities keeps us repeating past patterns, and blocks us from becoming more creative and conscious of better lives, better money. In other words, if you want to change you have to change your brain. In order to do that, you have to keep expanding your experiences. Ask good questions. You know yourself. Or do you? Imagine for a second that most of the money that runs through your fingers, stays with you, stays in your bank account. Can you imagine this? I hope so, because when you believe it, those thoughts and corresponding feelings about money are the glue that either supports you to keep money or you retreat from it. If each time you are asked about or are reminded about money, the first notion that pops into your head is, money flows through me like a bad case of diarrhea. What, not you? All right. Just in case, let's change that mental image once and for all.
