London also has a diverse range of people and cultures. The region has a population of over 8 million with over 300 spoken languages. It's the most populous municipality in the European Union. London contains four of the world's most famous World Heritage Sites: 1. The Tower of London, 2. Kew Gardens, 3. The Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, and St Margaret's Church, 4. Greenwich Village, & Park, were the Royal Observatory Greenwich marks the Prime Meridian, 0° longitude, and GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). Other famous London landmarks include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, Harrods Department Store, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, and the Shard. London's, filled with numerous other museums, galleries, libraries, sporting events and cultural institution to enjoy. Some of the most famous include the V& A (Victorian & Albert) Museum; the Natural History Museum; the Science Museum, the British Museum, the National Gallery, Tate Modern Museum, and the British Library. When visiting one mustn't forget the West End Theaters and London's famous and very spooky cemeteries. London's public transportation system includes the London Underground -referred by locals and regular travelers as the TUBE- the DLR: Docklands Light Rail, and the famous London Red Buses. The TUBE is the oldest underground railway network in the world. And one of its earliest lines -the Piccadilly line- we'll be utilizing for most of our NCR Day-Trips. There are only two significant ways to visit London: by air, or by rail via Euro-rail. This NCR travel guide focuses on one of the most popular ways: by air through Heathrow Airport, though an excellent travel guide if arriving by Eurail or Eurostar as well.
