The Chronicles of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Sherrill, Iowa provide the reader with insight into the very beginnings of the Iowa Synod, Wartburg College (now in Waverly, IA), and 19th century German pioneer life.
Featured in St. Matthew's early history are Wartburg President Grossmann, the missionary efforts of the Fritschel brothers of Nuremberg, and the Vogel brothers of Hof, Bavaria; each deeply influenced by Rev. Wilhelm Löhe of Bavaria.
These Chronicles include a transcription of the original German text and a translation into English. Also included are over 150 pages of valuable research including: biographies and history sketches, St. Matthew's records and pastors lists, selections from church record books, and an emigration description from 1855.
