Nathan Bentley is home alone one night and finds his neighbor, Mellie Parkinson, prowling around his house in the snow. He fails to act and wishes he could catch her in the act again, so he can call the police on her. He tells his friends about it, and they work on a plan to get back at her for messing with the wrong kid in the neighborhood. Mellie has tried to be the best crossing guard she can to the kids at the local elementary school, but things go wrong for her one morning when she crosses the line with oncoming traffic. In the meantime, she has a horrible habit that she will give in to just one more time, or maybe just after that one. She struggles to find a way out of her wonderful habit, and it always leads her a little bit closer to finding out why the people in Wonderville believe in aliens. A group of people in town knows what Mellie is up to. They watch as she snoops around town with no consequences at all. They finally swoop in and confront her about her little habit. Mellie and Nathan stumble over each other as they both work toward their goals, but how will Mellie respond when Nathan finally confronts her?
