Martin Andover is an aspiring writer hoping to break into the literary establishment. His fondest dream is to write a bestselling novel. In pursuance of that dream, Martin hones his craft by writing fan fiction but he fully realizes that he cannot make the transition from amateur writer to professional until after he takes the plunge and switches to writing original fiction. Magnum Opus is the story of how he tried to transform that dream into reality. It chronicles his development as an author from writing fan fiction to writing original fiction. It relates the efforts he made to break on to the publishing scene and what he did when those efforts ultimately proved futile. Will Martin succeed or will he be destined to become just another frustrated wannabe on the fringe of the publishing establishment? This book is based largely on my own experiences as a self-published author. While I certainly hope to entertain my readers, I also aspire to inform them. Anyone reading this book will be left with a much better appreciation for the pitfalls facing self-published authors. This novel does not present its story in the conventional way. It is told with almost no exposition whatsoever. I feel that this was a better approach because telling this story in the conventional way would have made the book twice as long and half as interesting. Whether those feelings are correct or not I will leave to the judgment of the reading public.
