Most if not all of us have either said or thought this about our spouse, "They have lost their mind!." How else can we explain the things they say and do that make us so angry! So what do we do to avoid a blow up? We pick our battles. We look for the nearest exit so that we can get away from them and find a way to decompress! Here is the key: LIFE, not your spouse, is the battle and marriage is frontline ministry. As you may already know, your spouse may not be the same person that you married years ago. We all get injured by life! Through the death of loved ones, health concerns, job stress, financial pressure, and family issues, life injures us. And although it is no reflection of their love for you, this trauma changes your spouse and it often changes the way that they interact with you. For the sake of your marriage you cannot allow "picking your battles" to be a go-to phrase for not helping your spouse engage in theirs. Don't just pick your battles, pick your spouse up off the battlefield!
