Science can inform us about what is, but cannot tell us why it is, or explain the meaning of our lives, or guide us morally. In fact, the more we learn from science, which has put into human hands the power to destroy the planet, the more urgent such questions become. THE UNIVERSE AND LIFE divides God's creative work into three distinct beginnings: the original creation of Genesis 1, encompassing dinosaurs and varieties of hominids, which ended in a fiery conflagration that destroyed all life except what was in the seas; a second beginning, reflected in Genesis 2, which saw the reanimation of earth and the creation of humanity as we know it (Adam and Eve), and which will end in terrifying violence; and a third beginning yet to come - the creation of a new heaven and a new earth, which shall have no end. As our world approaches the end of God's second creation, this book calls upon us to be prepared by accepting the reign of Jesus Christ over our lives, that we might participate in the new creation, with its future kingdoms prepared for those able to claim the inheritance.
