Regarding Luke recounts some of the life of Luke Franklin Hayden, who was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in the middle of the Reconstruction era, and that of his parents who left New England in the mid-1800s and traveled to Atlanta, where they were married. Luke became a civil engineer and naval architect. He was eventually employed by the U. S. War Department, which required him to travel frequently from his Philadelphia home and as far as Portland, Oregon, on one occasion. Photographs accompany the text. The lives of some of Luke's Puritan ancestors are briefly recounted, including those of his parents. Luke's Hayden, Wright, and White ancestors are among these. An appendix provides a typed transcript of Augustin Hayden's journal written during his service in the French and Indian War. The other appendix briefly follows the descent of some of Luke's ancestors, with genealogical data.
