A retired dentist made a startling discovery in the early years of our century. It turns out that John Adams, the second President of the United States, corresponded with his despised adversary and fellow Federalist, Alexander Hamilton, after they lost the 1800 election. Adams wrote to offer his condolence for the death of Hamilton's son. But soon his rage shows up. The two pugnacious characters draw us into their lives, telling a dramatic story punctuated by duels, madness, success, failure, conflict, adultery and scenes from two very different marriages. Adams struggles with anger, his need to be revered and his moral code. As they fight over who will occupy the American Pantheon, the personal merges with the political and the past connects to the present. This is the first of the Binnford Trilogy novels.
