Trapped behind the advancing enemy lines, Allison Rayleigh the daughter of a British diplomat is forced to flee from the city of Rangoon with her father and her friend the maid servant Lette. They are aided by Matthew Ranger, a young Angolo Indian junior clerk working at Government House. Pursued by a relentless Japanese officer called Moto, they escape through the dense jungle in the attempt to find refuge over the border in India.
