Lady Anne-Marie is faced with a problem. Her deceased father, the Duke of Aerie, has left his Dukedom to her and her brother, Simus, but Simus had many years before left home, and no one knows where he is.

The Duke's last will and testament specifies that both brother and sister must inherit - one alone is not sufficient. And the inheritance must be claimed within thirty days!

Anne-Marie's problem is the fact that if Simus is not found the Dukedom would fall to Earl Frederic, the Duke's brother, a very unpleasant uncle, and disliked by everyone.

If Anne-Marie is to search for Simus she must traverse a mysterious forest, one known to be hazardous, and not to be entered without serious preparation.

Since time was of the essence Lady Anne-Marie could not wait to plan and prepare for the journey into this dark terrain.

That was a serious mistake, as this story will reveal.
