Penny Lane goes to Italy is a comedy drama set in Northern Italy and Switzerland. It is the first in a series of romps around Europe featuring Penny Lane Agency in Liverpool, an organization loved by the British Establishment where the utmost discretion is required. In this story Count Ferdinand Vespucci needs a Zurich bank's master key. His father enabled the Nazis to invest in the Swiss banking system in 1942 and substantial capital and interest is due to the family. Vespucci's vault box key suddenly does not fit and he cannot access the promissory note. He doesn't know the bank is still in the hands of Nazis, the Neo-Nazi Stalhelm organisation. Time is running out. The Pucci pasticceria and pomodori brand names are facing bankruptcy. In desperation he calls his friend from his student days at Oxford, Penny Lane. Armed with a new key, the count's twin sons, Little People Ignatio and Clementino, set about retrieving the note and some wartime Nazi documents for leverage. After the escapade they find safe haven from Nazi thugs with a relative, the Countess Anna at her estate in St. Moritz, until they venture out into the fairground. There is tension between the twins, not least being that only one will inherit the title and Bergamo estate.
