John Coast was a young officer in the Norfolk Regiment who was taken prisoner in Singapore in February 1942. Railroad of Death is the first and best account of forced labour on the Burma Railway. The 1946 bestseller republished with a new introduction and transcriptions of Coast's 1969 interviews with his Japanese captors for the BBC.
