The Three Bears
Derec Jones
Once upon a time there was a little boy who had a dream about The Three Bears ? well, it was a nightmare actually, and it kept recurring. He thinks a lot, this little boy, and he carries on thinking when he grows up. Trouble is the thoughts and experiences he has are a bit mixed up and sometimes he doesn't know whether he's a little boy having nightmares or a man living a nightmare of a life. Sometimes it seems to him that he is cursed, as the people who share his life have an alarming habit of becoming dead. But who is responsible?
This is not a conventional read and it is definitely not a children's book despite the title. Here are just a few of the many comments praising the book.
?Oh my God, ?proper? literature that breaks rules and creates new ways of doing things and pulses off the page ? I need to lie down now.?
?a unique voice-one of the most original, full fat, piece of writing I?ve read in a long while. Great, great stuff?
?what it is is a work of art, in the fullest sense?
?Everything fits. I haven?t read such a clever book in a long time and I love it. There is madness, lots of it, lots of pieces that shouldn?t add up ? but they do. And when they do, they make sense ? perfect sense.?
This is Derec Jones's first published novel. He is currently editing his new novel ?Cheats and Liars? for publication in Spring 2013
