Saints and Sinners is a fictionalised account of the lives of Queen Margaret and her husband Malcolm III, King of Scots.
Princess Margaret of Wessex, her sister Princess Cristina, their brother Edgar the Atheling, the one-time uncrowned King of England; and their mother Princess Agatha, arrive on the shores of Scotland, escaping the threat of William the Conqueror. They seek refuge at the court of the widowed King Malcolm III, who promises to try and help Edgar regain his throne and protect his family. The rough warrior-king has set his sights on the beautiful and pious Margaret, whose ambition is to join a convent and become a nun. Their conflicting personalities adjust to find a way through to lasting happiness. Proud and headstrong Margaret helps to reform the Celtic Church, to the dismay of many Scots. The Queen's maid, Rowena, harbours a secret that could destroy their happiness.
The story follows their lives, how Queen Margaret dedicated hers to the Scots people, helped the cause of the Saxon slaves, and how she started the Queen's Ferry across the Firth of Forth to help the pilgrims. It also looks at the miracles attributed to her and how she ultimately earned a sainthood.
