In 1949, four innocent black youths were found guilty and sentenced for a terrible crime they did not commit. Thurgood Marshall came down to rural Florida to defend these young men more than two decades before he became the first African-American to serve on the US Supreme Court. Even before the trial was over, two of the young men were dead at the hands of the Klan and the Law. The remaining Groveland Boys, as they were known, were released after many years of incarceration.
