A woman's dead body is sprawled across an ancient tombstone in the graveyard of Newton-Upon-Sea. There are those in the little village on the Essex coast who say the death was related to supernatural events. Others say Her Majesty Queen Victoria, who happens to be visiting on a secret mission, has a clear motive for the murder. Dr. Alexandra Gladstone, the town's doctor, becomes caught up in the mystery as she tries to administer to the needs of her patients. She must confront a ghostly presence or the queen herself before she can find the murderer.
