Jessie and Shawn Nightwine continue their battle to legitimize their marriage and family. Joshua Natimate, a powerful attorney and the astral messiah, refuses to drop his case against them. It angers Jessie that her best friend fights her so mercilessly in court, but a much bigger threat soon presents itself and distracts her from the trials. The Vashnevee, a formidable, immortal force of beings, do not care about legal proceedings or fair trials. They demand one of two immediate solutions: the death of their mortal enemy, Shawn, or the murder of all Nightwine children. Jessie is forced to seek help from those she betrayed in the not-so-distant past.
