Eye of the Cobra is the final book in the trilogy series of They Sleep with the Fishes and Trust Only Family. Eye of the Cobra follows three generations of the Cosenza family and complements the first two books. This book is primarily fiction. Rocco is a shoe maker in Naples. He is frustrated that the Black Hand preys on him and other merchants and the authorities do nothing. Rocco and a friend take two thugs on and find they best leave Italy for America only to find poverty and bigotry. Oppression is overcome after he moves his family to Chicago, but the Black Hand is again in his way to prosperity. He then joins forces with a Mob boss. Rocco and his wife raise two boys. The oldest, Angelo, seeks adventure and criminally comes upon an incredibly valuable but haunted jewel - Eye of the Cobra. All that covet it die including Angelo. The jewel is inadvertently passed on to Angelo's two sons (Vito and Tony), the main characters of the first two books. The boys grow up and after finding their way out of a criminal life serve in the Army during WW II. After the war they return home try to sell off the jewel but find it was stolen. However, it is reacquired through a love triangle and murder. The brothers finally understand the jewel is really haunted as more people die because of it. The brothers decide to send the jewel back to the devil by dropping it in Lake Michigan. The jewel finds its way back and more die. The book is filled with mystery, crime, adventure and romance.
