Zyahna Bryant, is an award-winning student activist and community organizer. In the Spring of 2016, Zyahna wrote the petition calling for the removal of Confederate statues from Charlottesville's parks, and City Council voted to remove them in 2017. She continues to lead the conversation locally and nationally about race, space, and confederate monuments while organizing with local teens and youth leaders around issues of race and inequity. Her primary focus remains on how racial landscapes contribute to the achievement gap and educational inequity on a regional and national scale. Zyahna has been featured in The New York Times, National Geographic, The New Yorker Magazine, Forbes; and featured on Vice News, PBS, CNN, and BET. Reclaim is a collection of poetry and essays written about activism and Black girlhood in the era of the Black lives matter movement. Zyahna talks about her efforts in a creative way with journal entries and prose written about antiracist work in Charlottesville and beyond.
