Sophia and Ray made a move to the gorgeous mountains of Middle Tennessee, unknowingly placing themselves in the center of the methamphetamine belt. The horrific reality of the crisis lands on them while hiking one day. A hand falls out of a tree and slides down Sophia's back. One of the nearby meth labs had exploded, causing multiple deaths and devastating injuries. Ray, being the first detective in the Plateauville PD, investigates the case. At the hospital Emergency Department, Nurse Sophia hears things about the lab and the explosion and noses into Ray's case-again. It may not have been an accident at all. The information she gives Ray is useful, but she attracts unwanted attention. Ray warns her to lower her profile, but the ex-cop can't seem to stop. To end the meth madness, at least locally, she wants the guilty caught as much as Ray does. There's a tangled web of interrelated families and gossipy townsfolk to contend with. The challenge of uncovering who might have torched the meth lab and discovering the identity of the John Doe lying in the morgue brings Ray and Sophia into the lethal sights of the local meth organization. They'd love to stay alive.
