The Dean children don't know how to carry on after losing their grandfather to the Keepers. Caledon refuses to deal with his pain and attempts to distract himself whenever possible. Laila's completely fallen apart; she won't eat or get out of bed and cries constantly. Nicholas is the only one processing his emotions well but his older siblings aren't able to see past themselves to help him through it. Nina is doing her best to be there for her friends while her parents decide how to punish her disappearance last year. David is taking care of Laila since her brothers are running out of patience for her grief, but he finds himself falling for her in the process.
