Murder and corruption follow Harry Touchstone, a small-town detective working mostly on insurance cases for a local company. When one of his young friends working on her thesis on corruption in the building industry gets brutally murdered, Harry tries to unravel the case and goes from hunter to hunted. Harry's enemies are numerous, especially after his assistant, an attractive native woman, is abducted and raped, and close friend is left for dead. The Hell's Angels, the Grey Man's thugs, and two young psychopaths put Harry on a collision course with movers and shakers in business and the players who protect them. But Harry finds allies in the unlikeliest places: a transvestite from Vancouver's East side, a hacker living in an old derelict building, Mamma Jing, the matriarch of Vancouver's Chinatown, and an Island detective with a crew of misfits.
