After the Cisneros children lose their mother to cancer, the tragedy leads to a division between siblings who were once close. A phone call from Mateo, the youngest brother, forces them to come together to face their father's failing health. The struggle to work through their deepening grief, sibling rivalry, and a member's mental illness challenges their ability to cooperate, resulting in further conflict and neglect. How they each cope with the worst part of living, that of caring for an ailing parent, will either create a deeper chasm between family members, create new ones, or heal them.
