Kenneth Golden's writing was heavily influenced by his troubled life in his home city of Los Angeles, where together he and his two brothers became #7 on the Los Angeles West End Bureau of Narcotics' Most Wanted list for a wide range of criminal activities. His work addresses life as a convict and, in his later years, life as an ex-convict, while also touching on topics such as substance abuse, mental illness, and love. In the late 1990s, Golden started his own short-lived inner-city poetry zine, Press Your Luck Publications, named after how his mother was always telling him, "Don't press your luck." While his zine received plenty of submissions, Golden soon grew bored of what his peers were sending. The Cavern Press has assembled Kenneth Golden's PRESS YOUR LUCK, a collection of his surviving poetry and essays, to honor and remember the author as a talented poet and writer. 100% of all profits are donated to charity.
