The game of basketball has always been so beautiful to me, and for a long time it was a light in the dark world in which we live. The game taught me discipline, strength, and how to endure; and I knew that I wanted to play this game for the rest of my life. Basketball took me to heights that no person or substance was ever able to, but there was still something missing. There was something that the accolades, praise, and championships couldn't provide. There was a void in me that the game wasn't able to fill. I tried to fill that void with sex, drugs, and alcohol, but none of that gave me the wholeness that I so desperately sought after. Not even making it to the professional level gave me the satisfaction that I was looking for. That level of satisfaction and fulfillment can only be found in the arms of Jesus. For so long I thought basketball had the power to save me from all the things that I feared, but basketball was merely a teacher, Jesus is my savior.
