Thoughts and events are transformed into whimsical stories chronicled by the protagonist Blue, a blade of grass who lives in the company of several varieties of grass compatriots. Blue is both witness and philosopher, with his comments and experiences becoming an allegory as he writes about profound and not so profound social, political, and sometimes life-threatening events that seem commonplace to humans. On occasion he encounters the bizarre, such as being mistaken for slice of mulch and taken by a cardinal to its nest, or encountering the forbidden when he travels with his friend Rye to a marijuana field. But in most of Blue's stories the thoughts that he and his fellow grasses express are serious, and the situations they confront are real enough to resonate with and sweet enough to charm both adult and young adult readers. The text is sprinkled throughout with Imaginative illustrations which add to your visual experience as you travel with Blue on his journeys.
