Thomas Davies is a bachelor enjoying a comfortable life working from his flat in London. His chosen profession: researching and locating rare books. A visit to the British Museum to view a recently discovered Sumerian artifact ends in bloodshed and a cover-up. Just when Thomas thinks the events of the recent past are behind him, a strange man visits his flat unannounced. Not long after, the carnage from the museum is repeated within his own home. Unsure whether he has been rescued or kidnapped and surrounded by military veterans in the service of the enigmatic Karl Lark, Thomas finds himself captive to what appears to be a diabolical criminal organization with supernatural capabilities.
