Let Go the Reins John D Hughes
Let Go the Reins
John D Hughes
Palisade, Nevada--July 1878
The sheriff of Elko County stands in the Lind family home on the outskirts of town on a hot, dry Sunday morning. He's staring at Meg Lind, dead on the kitchen floor, a single bullet ripped through her chest. Earlier, her brute-of-a-husband, Daniel, was found standing over her body with revolver in hand. Their daughter, seven-year old Allie, is left without a parent to care for her. The sheriff reluctantly steps in to rescue Allie from the evil of the town--and in doing so forever binds them. Over the following several years, the sheriff, Allie, and Daniel are all forced to face their unsettled pasts. Destinies ultimately collide in a rush back to Palisade for final confrontations, where good and bad come face-to-face--sometimes within the same person.
Let Go the Reins is a gritty, tense, and deeply moving western, yet ultimately a beautiful story set in the Old West town of Palisade, Nevada, and stretching into Arizona, California, and Wyoming.
