George Rausch, our fictionalized representation of Dodge, drowned in the North Channel of Georgian Bay on August 15, 1938. He was twenty-one years of age and had been married for thirteen days to a telephone operator from Manitoulin Island making $15 dollars a week. An explosion occurred, injuring several people, including the young millionaire. George's new bride loaded the injured into a speed boat and headed to the nearest hospital, miles away. Everyone made it-everyone except George Rausch.
